Dane Jensen is an Art Advisor in Los Angeles for Gurr Johns, one of the largest, oldest and most trusted independent advisory and appraisal firms in the world.
With a diverse background as an auction specialist, curator and gallery director and 20 years of experience, his insider knowledge helps collectors to navigate the often complex and opaque world of art. As an advisor, he can add exceptional and rare works to your collection in best possible markets and identify buying opportunities that most do not have access to. Whether buying or selling at auction, in the private market or at galleries he will vet potential works for quality, condition, value and curatorial fit with your collection--heading off many of the pitfalls of collecting. For each acquisition, a bespoke strategy emerges to guide the negotiation to ensure the correct value correlates with the strength of the work.
As a curator he has produced, executed and managed numerous exhibitions for museums, institutions and project spaces including the Wattis Institute for Contemporary Arts, the Oakland Museum of California, and the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts.
Jensen was a Director of Contemporary Art and Auctioneer at Bonhams Auctioneers in Los Angeles from 2013 to 2018. A number of his key consignments graced the cover of auction catalogs including a 1964 Andy Warhol 'Jackie.'
He previously was the Director of the Los Angeles gallery of Moss, the legendary design gallery founded by Murray Moss in New York. Prior to Moss, Jensen was Gallery Director of the Earl McGrath Gallery in Los Angeles. He holds an MA in Curatorial Practice from California College of the Arts and a BA in Art History from the University of Wisconsin, Madison.
